This course is geared toward participants learning key components of ethics as well as exploring why and how following guidelines is useful as well as important. Assuming that everyone wants to maintain an effective, ethical practice, time will be spent exploring personal values and how they effect ethical conduct. Discussion will also focus on HOW internal and external ethical guidelines can be united and effectively incorporated for a more comfortably ethical practice. Participants will: *Define and discuss boundaries (including different types), roles, transference, countertransference, power differential and values; *Define, compare and discuss internally- and externally-imposed ethical guidelines; *List personal internally-imposed guidelines; *Review and compare several externally-formulated ethical guidelines (eg AMTA, OBTA, ABMP, ACA [American Counseling Association]).
