Dual relationships are almost impossible to avoid; clients are often relatives, friends, friends of relatives, relatives of friends, friends of other clients, colleagues, etc. etc. etc. As bodyworkers we could get crazy just trying to totally avoid dual relationships; often we don’t even know they exist until after the fact! It’s still possible to maintain an ethical, grounded practice if we understand underlying pitfalls of dual relationships and follow some relatively simple guidelines. The focus of this course is on expanding your thought processes re difficulties associated with dual relationships in a bodywork practice. Participants will: *Experience a guided imagery meditation re dual relationships; *Describe and discuss boundaries, power differential, dual relationships, transference and countertransference; *List specific types of dual relationships and discuss HOW they affect ethical safety for the client as well as practitioner; *Formulate guidelines to prevent unnecessary and/or destructive dual relationships; *Formulate guidelines to prevent ethical problems within unavoidable, acceptable dual relationships.
